Sources at City Hall claim that North Kansas City Schools superintendent Dan Clemens engaged in a lobbying campaign during the month of December 2021 to encourage Mayor Lucas and other Kansas City, Missouri council members to extend the city-wide school mask mandate. "It is my responsibility to keep these children safe. If these children die it's on our hands" Dan Clemens was quoted as saying to a KCMO City Council member. Some might question whether he is overstepping his role as superintendent, Kansas City Northland resident Marlin Muza had this to say "Playing politics is something this superintendent should leave to the school board. He is most likely just virtue signaling to keep his job"
The Glad Stone obtained the following snapshots of the survey.
But the North Kansas City School District remains undeterred providing this statement, "We will use our powerful platform as educators to build a community of critical thinkers who value and practice racial equity. Much work lies ahead for our school district and society. This isn’t the type of work that is ever complete. There won’t be a point at which we have arrived. North Kansas City Schools, with the support of our Board of Education, remains committed to the challenges we may encounter."
From Covid pandemic measures to promoting social justice, North Kansas City superintendent Dan Clemens may be courting a back-lash from certain segments of Kansas City Northland parents and community members. School Board candidates Duane Bartsh and Josiah Bechthold are running campaigns focused on ending masking mandates. They are running against incumbents Tary Ward and Frances Yang.
