It is a sad fact, but shooting has become more common. Whereas it was unheard of just 5 years ago, Gladstone is now experiencing one to two murders every year. Gladstone witnessed its first murder this year early Sunday morning as a verbal dispute turned deadly in the Northland area. Samuel Aro, 47, succumbed to gunshot wounds after an altercation escalated into gunfire around 2:30 a.m. at the 7800 block of North Oak Trafficway. Officers responded swiftly to find bystanders attempting to administer lifesaving measures to Aro. Despite their efforts, Aro was pronounced dead at a local hospital at approximately 7 a.m. The circumstances leading to the shooting point to a heated argument between Aro and another unidentified man, who fled the scene before law enforcement arrived.
